Grief is a natural response to loss, it is the emotional suffering that you feel when someone or something that you have loved is taken away. The more significant the loss, the more significant your grief is likely to be. Grief can have significant impacts over a range of areas including; our emotions, thoughts, physical wellbeing, behaviour, beliefs and relationships. The experience of grief can take on many different experiences and expressions. Bereavement is grief that involves the death of a loved one it is the period of grief and mourning after a death.
“I think it’s probably important to acknowledge and recognize that grief is a reaction to loss. We often confuse it as a reaction to death. It’s really just a very natural reaction to loss and so we can experience grief obviously when someone we’re attached to dies, but we can also experience it when we lose any significant form of attachment.” - Kenneth Doka.
